Faster internet requires physical labor
The cable man is coming to our house in a week and a half to install a cable modem. This pleases me muchly.

The only problem is that the only cable jack in the room currently is behind one of the six-foot bookcases. There are three bookcases total, and they stand next to each other. What this means is that I have to pack up all the books, move the bookcases, move my desk, and unpack all the books. Have I mentioned that packing and unpacking books is my least favorite part of moving? Because it is.

Not to mention that this means I absolutely, positively have to clean off my desk. I love my desk, really I do, but I'm suck a packrat that I don't think it's ever been clean in the entire four and a half years we've owned it. I store everything in piles; it's just that there are some things that don't fit in a pile. And there are office supplies and note cards and such that just don't fit anywhere else.

Basically, it's a disaster. And it's heavy as hell, so I have to at least take all the drawers out before Lee and I even have a prayer of moving it across the room. I don't even want to think about moving the computer and its associated 400 parts.

Mom told me that we should just have the cable guy install another jack; that's what they did when they got cable internet service. The only problem is that there are already at least 10 cable jacks in the house -- we don't need any more. So I'll pay the $25, we'll move the bookcases and my desk, and we'll survive. I just hope the cable guy doesn't need to go into the attic and see the absolute spaghetti we've got going on up there to have cable and satellite reception in two different rooms. It won't be pretty if he does.
