10:46 p.m. - 26 March 2001 There was a message on our machine Saturday afternoon. It was a little stranger than Mom's usual "This is the mother. Please call home" message, so I went ahead and called, even though our "free" long distance hadn't kicked in yet. Jennifer, the baby currently having one, answered and spilled the beans before Mom got on the line: "I never get to tell anyone anything, so I'm telling you: Tricia's getting married." Tricia, of course, being our other sister. Mom was a little ticked that Jen had told me what was going on before she had a chance to, but she pleaded with me: "Please tell me your life is on an even keel." Sadly, I told her that we had been house hunting, and that was why we'd missed her earlier call. She kind of moaned and told us we were not allowed. I don't think she's quite ready to deal with all of this at once. Though, in our favor, we were just looking. We don't really plan to buy a house for a couple of months yet. Though we did find a great lot out in the middle of nowhere.... So my little sister is getting married. Someday. They don't know when. It depends in large part on what she will be doing next year; whether she stays where she is and teaches at the Academy associated with her college or goes off to grad school in some far away place. This is the same sister that swore for months before I got married that she was going into a nunnery. She now denies making any such statement. Congratulations, Trish and Marc. I wish you all the best. And Marc? Don't even think about doing anything even remotely bad to my little sister. We've got a big family with a long memory...
