8:03 p.m. - 19 May 2001 I called Mom and asked if I was an aunt yet. She said no. We talked for maybe half an hour about this and that. Neither of us thought Jen would go to her due date, which is June 5. Mom promised to call if anything happened. This morning, approx. 8am: I'm awakened out of a doze by the phone ringing. It's Mom, and they're giving Jen an epidural as we talk. Jen was at 5cm at her last exam. I'm amazed things are happening this fast. This morning, approx. 10:45am: Dad calls and tells me I'm an aunt. Elizabeth Anne was born at 10:36, weighing 7lbs, 10oz, and measuring 19.5". Both she and Jennifer are doing well. I tell Lee he's an uncle, and he reminds me that his two brothers have three kids between them. I tell him to stuff it. This evening, approx. 7pm I call the hospital, and get to talk to both my parents and the new mommy. Apparently she woke up around 1am and her water broke. 9.5 hours from that time until the baby arrived. Not too bad for a first labor. Everyone's happy, they'll likely go home tomorrow, and I have a Pooh birth sampler to get working on. Congratulations Jennifer and John!
