8:02 p.m. - 17 June 2001 We bought a house. Pardon me while I scream at the idea of moving again after less than a year. Of course, since there are a lot of things that we never unpacked in the first place, this makes things a little easier. I started making a list of all the things we need to do with a new address. It depressed me, mostly because it took us about three months to get everything done the last time we moved. I'm sure the post office will be thrilled that we're filing another change of address while the old one is still in effect. But if a few of the 437 credit card offers get lost, I won't complain. I'm tired of throwing them out. The other big news in our lives is that we bought a laptop. We actually bought the laptop before the house, but it arrived right at the same time, so it felt like G-d distracting us. It worked. It's not a top of the line laptop by any stretch of the imagination, but it works, so I'll take it. We went up to a computer show yesterday and bought accessories for it: Things like an adaptor to use it in the car, a case, and some mapping software so that we can use it for directions while driving. I'm hoping this will put an end to our long-standing habit of being pissed off at each other when we drive somewhere new because of lousy directions. Lee's started calling me Linus and the laptop my blanket, actually, because I've been using it in bed and in front of the TV. Hey, I like to compute in comfort, is that so wrong? Besides, the mapping software is the only thing even remotely productive on it. The rest is games. Which pretty accurately reflects our desktops, too, come to think of it. So yesterday was mostly driving and looking. We found a health food co-op that sells basmati rice in bulk, but they were out (of course). We wandered around Sears looking at appliances, since we're going to have to buy a washer and dryer sooner rather than later. We came home and pretty much vegetated the rest of the evening. I called a sister to wish her happy birthday and called home to wish my dad happy father's day; Lee talked to his parents who were convinced we had washed away in all the rain. Not too bad for a Saturday night. Today, however, was a full-out assault on the apartment. I've washed everything that could be put in the washer, dried it, folded it, and put it away. This was an all-day proposition, which should teach me a thing or two about letting laundry pile up. The kitchen is next. As soon as Lee gets out of it, that is. He's currently concocting drinks out of frozen watermelon cubes. We shall see.
