Catsup
Yikes, two months? No wonder my hits suck.

My parents are in Alaska. This is their 4-years-overdue 25th anniversary trip (translation: they don't have any children in college full-time right now, so they can afford to go). They called me last night and we talked for a few minutes. Mom was on the phone and Dad yelled "It never gets dark! Ever!" and Mom agreed. Apparently, right now sunset is about midnight and sunrise is around 4am, but it's twilight in between, so yeah, it's light outside even when Mom gets up at 2:30am to go pee.

The most adorable niece in the world turned one last month. She's been walking around for several weeks now, and can say a few words: "mama," "baby," "buh-bye," etc. "Baby" is the one that she really knows what it means, and that it refers to both her dolls and to herself. Dad put her on the phone while I was talking to him last week; she said "baby" and I told her that yes, she was the baby, and she laughed at me. Apparently she thinks I'm funny. That, or I sound like Mama, which is a distinct possibility.

Tricia, though, looks like Mama, and has an absolute gift with small children, so Little Bit just loves her. Jennifer is working two jobs right now, and is going to school part-time, so she's always busy. But Little Bit clearly adores her and looks for her above all others, although Mom and Dad (or Gamma and Grampy) will do in a pinch.

The freaking rabbits managed to eat all of the green beans. I'm still sick about it, mostly because they did it in the span of just a couple of days, so there wasn't really any time to nip it in the bud, so to speak. I saw evidence of nibblage on the carrots last night, so tonight there will be some chemical warfare applied. Besides, I need to plant some more corn if I expect to have any pollinated ears.

The zucchinis and squash are appearing like gangbusters, and the butternut squash aren't too far behind. The peppers are in overdrive, and as soon as some of the blossom end rot disappears on the tomatoes, we're going to be drowning in them. I'll probably pick a couple of the jalepenos tonight; I foresee a lot of salsa in our future. The fruit trees look great, but the blueberry bushes look like they may be suffering from lack of rain. Join the crowd.

It looks like I'll be changing jobs in just a couple of weeks, and I'm kind of resigned to it. I'm not particularly happy about it, but I'm way too low on the totem pole to have any sort of say-so. Plus, it's the CEO herself who wants me to come down to Administration, so there isn't anything I could say even if my voice would be heard. Oh, well.

26 is just around the corner. For some reason I'm not anticipating this birthday as much as I usually do. Maybe because my mother had two children by the time she was 26 (all right, one wouldn't be born for another two weeks, but you know what I mean). Maybe because I'll be the age that Lee was when we started dating, and I can't imagine going out with a 17-year-old. Maybe because I've been out of college for five years and I don't really have anything to show for it, my wonderful husband and house excluded. Maybe because 30 is a lot closer from 26 than 25 and I don't like the state of my health. I don't know. I've just sort of got a block for this one. Course, I've kind of been batting the idea of seeing my doctor for a new prescription of Celexa around, too, so that may explain it. Who knows.

(Confidential to FR: The pictures are beautiful! She looks like you and he looks like his daddy!)
