Random baby tidbits
Woohoo! I've made it through the first trimester! And believe me, the end couldn't come fast enough. There are still some irritations, and I'm sure more will develop as I get farther along, but honestly, I feel much better now than I did even a couple of weeks ago.

Yesterday was my second appointment; the doctor told me I was right at the border of her being able to hear the heartbeat, but she tried with the Doptone anyway. She looked and looked, but never could find it. So I had another ultrasound.

It looks much more like a baby than the ultrasound I had at 7 weeks, believe me. Lee came along, and we could see the heartbeat. The doctor said that everything looks fine; baby is growing just like it should be at this point. She was fairly unconcerned that she couldn't find the heartbeat, so I never got too worried -- although it was a bit unnerving to feel her moving the little thingy around and around and not hear anything.

She did tell me I had to get a flu shot, but I was already planning on that anyway. I'd talked to the employee health nurse about holding a dose for me until I was through the first trimester. She agreed (this was about two weeks ago), and last week she told me to come get the shot as soon as I possibly could. Apparently there's only the one dose left, and she's got people clamoring for it. My OB, though, said she practically has to force her pregnant patients to get one.

I ordered some maternity underwear and pantyhose last week, because I'm starting to get to the point where things are uncomfortable. When they finally got here, I pulled the underwear out of the package and nearly fainted: they're enormous. I tried them on, though, and sadly, they do indeed fit. They're kind of baggy in the front right now, but I'm sure that will correct itself soon enough. The pantyhose, however, are way too big if the size guide on the package is to be beleived. But, I'd rather have hose that were too big than the ones I have now that feel like they're squeezing me in two by the end of the day.

I got my first regular maternity clothes from my mother-in-law today; I haven't tried them on yet, but that will be occurring shortly. I asked Santa for some work-appropriate maternity clothes, too; we'll see what shows up. My mother-in-law also gave both of us some money for a rocking chair; she had the rockers from Cracker Barrell in mind, but I'm not entirely sure that's what I want to get. I'll have to do some investigating -- although I have discovered that most baby stuff is wildly expensive for someone who's just going to pee and/or barf on it for the first several years of his/her life.

Okay, baby says it's time for bed, and who am I to argue?
